Saltwater Electrolysis

Seawater electrolysis

plays a central role in the energy transition. It makes it possible to generate hydrogen from the abundant seawater. Despite the challenge that this process can produce unwanted chlorine formation. CarbonOcean, together with GEOMAR, is working intensively on solutions to implement this industrially in order to conserve scarce drinking water resources.

Access to the products and know-how of project partner Whitecell Power AG gives the cooperation additional expertise. Whitecell is experienced in the production of bipolar plates and components for fuel cells and electrolysis. In addition, there are initial approaches in seawater electrolysis.

A project design is currently being developed with GEOMAR.
